Lecture: The History of Maine Women’s Clubs


Maine women have a rich history of civic activism on a wide range of issues, including temperance, suffrage, and mutual aid within their communities. Dr. Rebecca White will explore the varied ways early 20th century women used their social clubs to engage in serious political activism under the guise of maternal care for their communities. It will include a wide diversity of women and highlight the similarities and divisions both between and within women’s clubs on issues.
