Lecture: Oxen: Their Significance in New England’s History
First Parish Federated Church (150 Main St., South Berwick, Maine 03908)
Oxen in the United States of America have played an important role throughout its history. Unlike other countries, the U.S. never completely gave oxen up for horses, mules, or tractors. Dr. Drew Conroy, a professor of dairy science with more than two decades of experience as an oxen trainer, will present their history and folklore, as well as the use of oxen today.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
