Cleophas Dube, insurance dealer, and Adelia Turgeon Dube
c. 1900 - Dube Block - 455 Main Street
This property, owned by Cleophas Dube, who married Adelia Turgeon in 1910, was known as early as 1910 as the Dube Block, location of Dube Bros. Grocers that also sold washing machines through the 1920s, according to a local resident. The 1927 map shows gas pumps standing to the left of the main building and a warehouse in rear that survived through the next century. Five apartments were upstairs in the 1920s-30s. Ads of this period indicate various Dube businesses were in the neighborhood, including O. Dube the Boot and Shoe Dealer (1928), and Cleophas Dube Insurance. The Dube grocery continued through 1928, with free delivery of groceries.
